Sacrificial Swords

Two curved swords sacrificed in a bog at Rørby, western Zealand, c. 1550 BC. They were made here in Scandinavia. One of the swords is decorated with a ship picture. Perhaps the sword itself is shaped like a similar ship in silhouette, where the curved ending corresponds to the inward-curving prow and stern in the ship picture. The swords were probably only used in rituals.
